The traditional Festival of Wine and Cultural Heritage Avgustiada 2023 will hold its eleventh edition in Stara Zagora from 15th to 17th September this year outdoors on the Ancient Street in the city center. The festival offers a diverse cultural program with the participation of the Stara Zagora State Opera and other musical ensembles.
The Festival of Wine and Cultural Heritage Avgustiada provides the opportunity to the best Bulgarian wine cellars, the food producers, and distributors to present their interesting and new culinary products to the citizens and guests of Stara Zagora. International participation also increases every year, with wineries from the Balkans and other countries being included in the exhibition. This year, the international focus of Avgustiada 2023 is the Czech Republic.
The festival is a way to stimulate tourism and to promote wine and culinary culture. Among the participants and guests there will be representatives of the wine and food industry, ith an emphasis on the gourmet sector, the hotel and restaurant business, the industrial sector, government institutions and many other guests and connoisseurs of wine and good food. Visitors to the exhibition can taste the wines and vote for them according to their preferences. The wines that received the majority of the votes are distinguished by the logo of Avgustiada presenting a coin of the Roman emperor Caracalla.
Traditionally, a master class and other events will be held within the festival.Among the attractions is the election of the Queen of the Avgustiada, whose role is to be an ambassador of the festival. The festival is visited by around 3,000 people every year.
